Introduction of the course

Patients in the hospital, as well as home care settings, often require nutritional supplementation with enteral feeding. 

In the present module we would be discussing about three basic procedures related to gastro-intestinal (GI) system namely Naso Gastric (NG) Tube Insertion, Removal and Feeding.

Objective:

  • Discuss about NG tube insertion, feeding and removal
  • Demonstrate skill in assessing client prior to and after insertion or removal of NG tube or feeding
  • Demonstrate the technique of performing NG tube insertion, feeding and removal

    Details of the Course

    Naso gastric (NG) tube insertion, removal and feeding are relatively common procedures that are done in hospital practice to maintain the nutritional status of patient.

    The module has been divided into two parts:

    Part A- Naso Gastric (NG) Tube Insertion and Removal

    Part B- Naso Gastric (NG) Tube Feeding




    Part A- Naso Gastric (NG) Tube Insertion and Removal

    NG tube insertion involves insertion of an NG tube through nose and oesophagus into the stomach of a patient. This will enable to provide feed, medicine or fluids to the patient to maintain his/her nutritional status.
